Day 2: Tarangire
After breakfast you will start your safari with a drive along the Great
Rift Valley to Tarangire, Tanzania's third largest national park
and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic
baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the
animals that feed beneath them.
Animals concentrate along the Tarangire
River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area.
There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard,
cheetah and up to six thousand elephant.
After game driving you go on a ranger or Masai guided walk at the
parks bounderies.
Overnight at Kikoti Tented Camp or Maramboi Tented Camp
at Tarangire. All meals included.
Day 3: Lake Manyara
After breakfast we depart for Lake Manyara. Nestling at the base
of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park is recognized for
its incredible beauty. You can see many game animals such as Buffalo,
Elephant, Giraffe, Impala, hippo and others.
Overnight at Bouganvillea Safari Lodge in Karatu
nearby. All meals included.
Day 4: Karatu
Spend one day in and around Karatu a small town located on a high
plateau of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment. Your day will be spent
with a visit to the busy market of Karatu Town, a walk to coffee plantations,
or Ganeto Hill and an invitation to a descendent of the ancient
Irawq Tribe who will provide you with some interesting insights
about his tribe. If you are interested invisiting a a local
school or orphanage then this can also be arranged.
2nd Overnight at Bouganvillea Safari Lodge. All
meals included.
Days 5-6: Lake Eyasi
From Karatu you proceed to Lake Eyasi - home to the hunter-gathers
ethnic group of the Hadzabe Bushmen bearing similar characteristics
to those of Bushmen in Southern Africa. The small people of this
indigenous tribe are probably the last living in true harmony with
nature and have a wealth of Fauna and Flora knowledge to share with
us. Around Lake Eyasi you will also visit the remotely living Datoga
Tribe famous for their colourful leather clothing.
The days are filled with visits and cultural encounters around Lake
Eyasi until you enjoy a beautiful sunset at the banks of Lake Eyasi.
2 x Overnight at Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp at Laka
Eyasi. All meals included.
Day 7: Ngorongoro
With an early start to the day, after breakfast you will proceed to Ngorongoro Conservation
Area and descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with
a picnic lunch).
Ngorongoro Crater is often described as one of the
wonders of the world. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic
caldera and a a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest
animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black
rhino can be observed in their natural habitat. As very few animals
migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you
can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals,
rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. With a bit of luck
the ‘Big Five’ can even be spotted - all in one game drive!
Overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. All meals included.
Day 8: Ngorongoro Highlands
Excursion to Ngorongoro Conservation Area to an area called Crater
Highlands. At Olmoti Crater you can walk down to the relatively
shallow crater. The grassy caldera is home to eland, bushbuck and
sometimes buffaloes. Water flows across the crater to the south
side where it ours out to a small but spectacular waterfall known
as Munge Stream.
The six kilometer wide Empakai Crater is dominated
by a deep soda lake which occupies nearly half the floor. Waterbirds
and wildlife are often seen around the lake. The whole area is inhabited
by some 40,000 Maasai herdsmen and lots of them can be seen during
the day.
2nd Overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. All meals
included.
Day 9: Lake Ndutu
From the Crater Rim you proceed to the Southern part of the Ngorongoro
Conservation Areat. En-route you visit a Maasai
village, where the tribal inhabitants will proudly take you around, showing you
their dances, jewellery and dwellings and even take you to the village
nursery if you would like.
After that you visit the Olduvai Gorge Museum with an excellent
exhibition about artefacts from Olduvai Gorge where anthropologists
Louis and Mary Leakey made many significant discoveries, contributing
to the theory that human life originated in Africa. A local museum
guide will provide some explanations. With a local guide will then
take you into the Gorge for a walking tour. It is a strenuous descent
on a gravel track down the gorge and the gorge itself is a fairly
extensive and interesting cutting into the rocks. Don’t expect
to see lots of the findings which are all on display in the museums
but it is a great hike in a breath taking landscape.
Overnight at Ndutu Safari Lodge or Olaado Tented Camp.
All meals included
Day 10: Serengeti National Park
From Lake Ndutu you are off for your last two days on safari to
the “Great Serengeti”, the most famous wildlife
sanctuary in the world. The vast Serengeti plains cover an area
of over 14,763 square kilometers and during the months of the migration
(Oct ‘till July) , is the habitat of huge numbers of wildebeest,
zebra and Thomson’s gazelle with estimates of up to 1.5 million.
The Serengeti "Kopjes", massive boulder islands of granite
standing in a sea of grass, provide shelter to a great variety of
plants and animals, from leopards to the tiny dik dik. Spend your
day on a safari game drive around Serengeti.
Overnight at Mapito Tented Camp. All meals included.
Day 11: Serengeti National Park
Today you start your day with an early morning game drive to see
nocturnal animals returning from hunting in the soft early morning
light. Enjoy an informal bush breakfast outside the camp, followed
by a visit to the interesting Serengeti visitors center. Then return back
to your camp for a hot lunch. After some rest you go out for an
afternoon game drive or if you prefer then you can do a bush walk around the
camp.
2nd overnight at Mapito Tented Camp. All meals
included.
Day 12: Serengeti-DEPARTURE
After your camp breakfast we take you with some last game viewing
en-route to Seronera Airstrip for your flight to Kilimanjaro for
your departure (departure around 11:40 - arrival at 13:15). A dayroom
at KIA Lodge nearby can be arranged for you if you wish. Breakfast
and lunchbox included.
